The term “Industry 4.0” was coined in 2012 by the German Future Initiative of the same name. It expresses that, after mechanisation, electrification and automation, the fourth industrial revolution is now underway: digitisation and networking along the value chains with the aim of optimising the organisation and control of processes.
This change is based on new information and communication technologies that are increasingly being used in the manufacturing industry. However, “Industry 4.0” is more than the application of technology: It is a concept and a model for change in industry based on available and future technologies. The “Industry 4.0” initiative pursues the vision of an intelligent factory within a value creation network.
PROCOMM is part in the working groups of Swissmem’s initiative Industry2025 to help businesses catching up with these fundamental changes. Swissmem unites the Swiss electrical and mechanical engineering industries and associated technology-oriented sectors.
